Gemini App Automation Officially Rolls Out to Galaxy S26

The wait for "Agentic AI" is over. Google officially flipped the switch on a feature that changes how we interact with our phones forever: Gemini App Automation.

Starting with the newly released Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Gemini can now step outside its chat box and take control of your Android apps to perform multi-step tasks on your behalf. This is no longer just about searching for info; it's about executing your life.

1. "Order My Lunch": Task Automation in Action

The hallmark of this update is Screen Automation. Instead of you opening an app, searching for a restaurant, and adding items one by one, you simply tell Gemini what you want.

  • How it Works: You can say, "Gemini, order a spicy chicken sandwich from Popeye’s on Uber Eats."
  • Background Execution: Gemini opens the app in the background, finds the store, selects the item, and adds it to your cart.
  • The Safety Hand-off: For security, the AI will not finalize a payment. Once the cart is ready, your phone will give a strong vibration and a notification, handing control back to you to select the tip and hit "Place Order."

2. Supported Apps at Launch

Google has prioritized high-frequency service apps for this initial rollout. If you have these apps installed on your Galaxy S26, Gemini can now control them:

  • Food Delivery: Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash
  • Rideshare: Uber, Lyft
  • Daily Essentials: Starbucks

3. Why This is a Game Changer

The true value of App Automation isn't just about speed, it's about multitasking.

  • Background Labor: While the AI is navigating the add-on screens and menus of a delivery app, you can stay in your current app, finish an email, or keep scrolling social media.
  • Voice-First Convenience: It turns your phone into a true hands-free assistant for chores that previously required 20+ taps on a screen.

4. Hardware Support & Availability

  • First to Arrive: The feature is live today for Samsung Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra users.
  • Coming Soon: Google has confirmed this will launch on the Pixel 10 series (Pro and XL) in the very near future.
  • How to Enable: Check your Gemini app settings for a new toggle called "Screen Automation." If it's there, your device is ready to start acting as your agent.

5. The Future: Expanding the Agent’s Reach

This is just the beginning. While the current list focuses on food and transport, Google has already opened the door for developers of other major apps (such as Instacart and Expedia) to integrate with the Gemini automation framework. We are quickly moving toward a world where your phone doesn't just show you information, it handles your errands.

We’ve spent a decade learning how to use our apps; now, our apps are learning how to use themselves. With Gemini App Automation live on the Galaxy S26, the 'Assistant' has finally become an 'Agent.'
