Google Vids Update: 30-Minute Projects and 95-Minute Imports Now Live
Workspace

Google Vids Triples Duration Limits

Since its launch, Google Vids has transformed how teams share quick updates. Google is breaking the short-form barrier. In a major update to its AI-powered video creation app, Google has officially tripled the maximum project duration and expanded import limits to nearly two hours.

This update signals that Google Vids is moving beyond video snippets and into the realm of full-scale training, town halls, and deep-dive documentation.

The "Big 3" Changes: What’s New in Vids?

1. Projects are now 30 Minutes (Up from 10)

The previous 10-minute cap was perfect for a quick "hello" but difficult for technical walkthroughs. Now, a single Google Vids project can run up to 30 minutes, allowing for comprehensive storytelling and detailed project post-mortems in one file.

2. Recording Studio Expansion

If you are recording your screen or camera directly within the Vids studio, you now have a 30-minute recording window. This is a game-changer for HR teams recording orientation sessions or developers explaining complex code architecture without having to stop and restart the recording.

3. Massive Import Limits (Up to 95 Minutes)

This is the "heavy lifter" part of the update. You can now import video or audio files up to 95 minutes long (or up to 4 GB).

  • The Catch: While you can import 95 minutes of footage (like a recorded Zoom call or Town Hall), you still need to edit that clip down to 30 minutes or shorter within the Vids timeline to unlock full editing capabilities.

Why This Matters for Your Workflow

  • No More Pre-Editing: Admins and creators no longer need to use third-party software to trim or compress large videos before bringing them into the Google ecosystem.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Teams can now store long-form institutional knowledge like a full 25-minute software training, directly in Google Drive as a Vids project.
  • Better Privacy: By keeping the entire editing process within Google Workspace, sensitive company data stays protected under Google's enterprise security.
