Seamless Collaboration: Google Meet and Microsoft Teams Join Forces
The wall between video conferencing platforms just got thinner. Google has officially announced built-in interoperability between Google Meet hardware and Microsoft Teams Rooms, making cross-platform meetings easier than ever.
In today’s hybrid work world, it’s common for a company using Google Workspace to be invited to a call hosted on Microsoft Teams. Previously, this required complex workarounds. Now, it is a native experience.
What is Changing?
This latest update allows for bidirectional joining across the two most popular meeting platforms:
- From Google Meet Hardware: You can now join Microsoft Teams meetings directly from ChromeOS-based Google Meet devices.
- From Microsoft Teams Rooms: You can join Google Meet calls directly from Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms devices.
Why This Matters
For businesses, this means the "wrong room" problem is solved. You no longer have to worry about whether your conference room hardware matches the invite link in your calendar. Whether the meeting was created in Outlook or Google Calendar, you can walk into a room, tap the screen, and join.
Key Details for Admins
- Rollout: The Admin console settings began rolling out on February 3, 2026. End users will start seeing the feature on their devices starting February 16, 2026.
- Default Status: This feature is ON by default, though admins can disable it at the Organizational Unit level if necessary.
- Hardware Compatibility: Currently, this native interop is supported on ChromeOS-based Google Meet hardware and Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms.
Google’s commitment to an open and flexible Workspace continues to bridge the gap between competing technologies. By removing the friction between Meet and Teams, teams can spend less time troubleshooting their hardware and more time focused on the work that matters.
Does your office use a mix of Google and Microsoft tools? This update is the perfect excuse to simplify your meeting room setups!
