Prep Your Team: Real-Time Translation is Coming to Meet
In today’s global economy, your next big idea shouldn’t be held back by a language barrier. Whether you are pitching to a client in Tokyo, syncing with a developer in Berlin, or hosting a town hall for a multilingual workforce, clear communication is the heartbeat of collaboration.
That is why we are thrilled to announce that Speech Translation in Google Meet is moving from alpha to General Availability.
For businesses using Google Workspace, this means near-real-time translated captions are about to become a standard part of your meeting toolkit.
What is Speech Translation?
Speech translation allows Google Meet to listen to what is being said and provide instant captions in a different language. Unlike standard closed captions, which simply transcribe the speaker's native tongue, speech translation bridges the gap between speakers of different languages, allowing everyone to follow the conversation in the language they understand best.
Why This Matters for Your Organization
- True Inclusivity: Ensure every team member, regardless of their native language, can contribute and stay informed.
- Global Efficiency: Reduce the need for expensive third-party interpretation services for everyday internal syncs.
- Transparency: When a user turns on translation, a notification is shown to all participants, ensuring everyone knows how the information is being processed.
Control for Admins
We know that security and management are top priorities for IT leaders. Administrators now have a dedicated toggle in the Admin Console (under Meet service settings > Gemini settings) to control this feature.
- Default Setting: The feature is ON by default for eligible domains.
- Customization: Admins can disable or enable this at the Organizational Unit (OU) level to fit specific departmental needs.
When Can You Expect It? (The Rollout)
While the feature has been announced, it is rolling out in phases. Mark your calendars for these dates:
- Admin Settings: Already visible! Admins can begin configuring their preferences now.
- Rapid Release Domains: The feature will begin appearing for end-users starting January 27, 2026.
- Scheduled Release Domains: For organizations that prefer a more conservative update cycle, the feature is releasing soon, with a full rollout scheduled to begin on February 18, 2026.

This powerful AI-driven feature will be available to the following Google Workspace editions:
